Butterscotch Apple Muddy Buddies

Butterscotch Apple Muddy Buddies -these are just like the classic party treat, only better! This recipe is super easy and crazy good!
I can't believe that I haven't posted any muddy buddy recipes here!

Guys, I am addicted to muddy buddies. Seriously. I've made 9 different flavors. And I can down 10 cups of it in one sitting.

For those of you who don't know what muddy buddies are, it's a yummy snack mix. It's chex cereal covered in peanut butter and chocolate then coated with powdered sugar. It's very easy to make and highly addictive. Seriously, you need to try it because it's amazing.

I was going to make these really cute muddy buddies for Halloween that were Boo Buddies or something like that that were just white chocolate muddy buddies with edible eyes, but that didn't work out.

I'd seen something like how to make googly eyes at home, so I tried it with white chocolate chips and half a bag of burnt white chocolate chips later I realized you have to use royal icing.

So then I turned to butterscotch apple muddy buddies which also didn't work because you can't put apples in muddy buddies or you get soggy muddy buddies.

It took me three tries to get these muddy buddies right, but the finishing product was worth it!

Butterscotch apple is one of my favorite new flavor combos I discovered this year. It's like caramel apple only a little darker or richer.

The only difference between butterscotch and caramel is caramel is made with white sugar and butterscotch is made with brown sugar.

So if you like caramel apples, you'll like butterscotch apples!

These muddy buddies were really good. The have a butterscotch base and apple cider drink mix in the powdered sugar, because I don't like dehydrated apples and this was a good way to sneak some apple flavor in there.

These muddy buddies were SO easy to make and were crazy good, we could not stop eating them! Give them a try!

4 stars****
Serves: 12      Prep Time:15 min.     Total Time:15 min.
Ingredients:
  • 8 cups apple cinnamon chex
  • 1 cup butterscotch chips
  • 1/2 cup peanut butter
  • 1/4 cup butter
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1 1/2 cups powdered sugar
  • 1 packet (.74 oz.) apple cider mix
Directions:
  1. Measure the cereal into a large bowl, set aside.
  2. Microwave the butterscotch chips, peanut butter and butter for about 1 minute. Add vanilla, and continue microwaving until smooth.
  3. Pour mixture over cereal. Stir until evenly coated.
  4. In a gallon size zip-loc bag, seal and shake together the powdered sugar and apple cider mix until combined.
  5. Use a large spoon to scoop the cereal into the bag. Seal and shake until coated.
  6. Serve. This is good at any stage, I like it best fresh and melty.
Notes:
*you can substitute other chex cereals if you need to, but apple cinnamon works the best to give it an extra apple flavor

The photos are a little less blog-worthy than I wanted, but trust me, these may not be the most photogenic food, but what they may lack in looks they completely make up for in tastes!
